According to a number of studies, many African American youth graduate high school unprepared for the rigors of college. This often leads to lack of preparation for postsecondary opportunities, and bigger challenges in the labor market. I know first-hand how challenging it is to leave from home life into college life in search of a brighter future, and how travel provides a chance to change ones quality of life for the better.
I believe that every child should have the opportunity to experience life enriched by travel. Travel is educational and brings about diversity to bridge gaps. Through seeing the world, Black youth are given a positive opportunity to learn and feel encouraged to connect to diverse communities.
Our mom is a single mother of 5 and a school teacher for over 20 years. I’m the eldest and want to surprise my family with a trip to Japan next fall 2022. God willing, things open up. If not, we will reschedule.

I got to experience Japan for myself in 2019 and carry every moment with me. It was truly a positive and life changing experience and I’m asking for your help with, having my high school siblings future in mind. They are fascinated with learning about global art & culture, and practice drawing and learning to speak Japanese daily. I think seeing the city for themselves and exploring Japan up close, will impact their lives positively for a lifetime. It will also be rewarding to see their self-taught efforts be put to use. But I can't do it alone. My goal is to inspire them with personal experiences that will hopefully lead to insight on education and career options as Black youth.
With all of the trauma repeated in our daily news cycle, Black communities are submerged deep in a mental health crisis. After months of lockdowns and quarantines, Black youth deserve support in creating a space that shows wellbeing matters.
When travel is permitted again, we need $9,000 to make our dream a reality--it costs money to get passports, book a flight for a family of 5 + mom, hotel, travel, & food expenses to attend this trip. Will you donate? Any little bit will do. $1.00. $5.00. $25.00. $100.00.
