My name is Darren Green. I have been developing the Maxtrac wheel chair for the past 8 years. The chair has been designed so that people with mobility issues will no longer be excluded because of the limited access that common wheelchairs provide. Over the last 8 years my friend Michael Kidd and myself have invested many thousands of dollars, thousands of hours and over 30 prototypes to produce a chair that is safe, reliable and, when in production, affordable.
Our next goal is to get the Maxtrac certified to Australian standard. Unfortunatetly Mike and I can no longer support this project ourselves as we have exhausted our funds. We are hoping to raise the $40,000 needed to both construct a chair and pay for the testing itself.
We have many people wanting a Maxtrac chair, many of them disabled friends, so are hoping to raise the money as soon as possible.
Here is a testamony from one person that has used Maxtrac.
Little did I know how much an accident 4 years ago would change my life.
The broken back and resulting quadriplegia certainly curtailed our outdoor life
- or did it?
I've spent 3 years in a mid-drive power chair, very capable around the house, office and smooth hard surface areas and the limited places with wheelchair access.
However I've found out the hard way the limits on slopes, soft ground and even SMALL step-up situations.
I've even had a tumble down a flight of stairs, but that was not the fault of the chair.
I know MaxTrac will handle that a lot more capably when I am game enough to try a stair or two again.
I was very excited on being asked to be a "crash test dummy" for MaxTrac.
After just a few trials with this innovative and revolutionary all terrain tracked chair, I have found out how readily it breaks down the access barriers, quite different from my current wheels that has many limitations.
I found I can again go for a run down the beach with my wife.
Events with my local tree-planting group are now much more accessible.
I don't have to stay on smooth paths as soft, uneven ground is not a problem . MaxTrac is also maneuvreable enough to get around home and my workplace and it's surprisingly nimble enough to do a U-turn inside my van, so I can drive out instead of reversing - very impressive!
With the seat lift function I will now be able to join conversations at eye level instead of navel gazing! Conversely, at the other end of the height scale, I can also fit under most tables, so allowing me to dine AT the table rather than away from it with a tray on my lap.
MaxTrac really is a life changer.
