Healing Community Through Postpartum Care
Donation protected
Hello Family, Friends & Community!
Thanks for visiting my gofundme page!
About Me:
My name is Jen Maramba, I currently reside in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Toronto is also known as Tkaronto, a Mohawk word that means “where there are trees standing in waters”. I give thanks to the original stewards of this sacred land for providing a safe space to listen to all beings, I am truly privileged to be residing here with my family. Toronto is in the 'Dish With One Spoon Territory’. The Dish With One Spoon is a treaty between the Anishinaabe, Mississaugas and Haudenosaunee that expresses the agreement to share and protect the land with respect and to do so peacefully. Toronto is currently home to many indigenous peoples and I hold intention to continue deepening my knowledge of indigenous history, narratives and being an accomplice for indigenous rights & birthwork initiatives alongside my family.

I have had a deep interest in birthwork since 2006 while working as a relief worker & counselor for a pre/post natal residential home in Toronto. In my spiritual work and ancestral re-membering, I learned that one of my grandmothers supported her community as a midwife, given that she birthed eleven children of her own (not including pregnancy losses). In addition, my own post-natal experience has led me to evaluate the available supports and the evident lack of support for birthing parents. It is not only about the few weeks or months following birth but, how we as a community value care for birthing parents to last a lifetime and for generations to come.

Why I am Raising Funds:
I am currently raising funds for the continuation of my Postpartum Care Provider Certification with INNATE Traditions in Taos, New Mexico. I chose this program because of the emphasis on Postpartum Care as essential to community health by placing the birthing mother/parent at the center of care. This is revolutionary work to re-center care on mothers/birthing parents, babies & future generations!
With this continued learning, I chose to dedicate my professional wellness care and healing work towards re-membering the innate ability of the birthing/birthed body and to guide families through postpartum support, education, rites of passage, ceremony & healing work. It is a part of my soul purpose to support folx in important life transitions and it is a true honour to be a witness and to be trusted as a support & guide in this path!
I believe in centering support to birthing parents. Family centered care in the postpartum period (and beyond) can support the growth of holistically healthy children, and these children, who are the seeds of our community & future can carry forward the positive values of what nurturing care feels & looks like for ALL people.

My Purpose & Intention:
My purpose with this work is to gain professional, practical skills and insights in the areas of family centred care, postpartum wellness education and holistic tools, skills and resources with the intention to support families in the Toronto community & beyond.
My current practice will expand to:
· Provide postpartum mental, emotional, physical & spiritual wellness support to birthing parents.
· Provide postpartum wellness care education to community members, birthing parents & planning families.
· Create plant-based topical offerings to support postpartum wellness care.
· Develop & Provide Rites of Passage Ceremonies for Birthing Parents with families and communities:
o Ancestral Healing Ceremony for Parenthood
o Honouring & Healing Ceremony for Birth, Pregnancy Losses/Abortions
· Womb Healing Ceremony
o Postpartum Closing Ceremony

The Costs:
I am raising money for the reimbursement of funds from the in-person training attended in New Mexico this past September 2019. I am still in the process of completing on-line training and certification, which is to be completed by May 2020. Fundraising efforts include expenses for required books, herbs & plant medicine for postpartum support, moxibustion kit and other support materials.
· INNATE Postpartum Provider Care Training: $2660 CAD
· Travel & Accommodation Expenses (Taos, New Mexico): $3320.00 CAD
· Books & Materials: $400 CAD
Economic Sovereignty:
When I expressed to INNATE’s instructor, Rachelle Garcia Seliga, my nervousness about receiving this training because of my financial situation, she said “sharing INNATE's Training is in the name of economic sovereignty for us all; in alignment with the spirit of Prosperity. Especially as birth workers. Especially as women. So that all of life may THRIVE.”
I align myself with the intention to support community through this path of care, to support my family through the economic exchange of my wellness care services and in developing meaningful relations in community.

Gratitude:
Your support in my fundraising efforts will allow me to complete the training to become a Certified Innate Postpartum Care Provider. I will be a resource and offer resources (including other health/wellness care providers & birthworkers) for womxn, parents and families within the Toronto community for postpartum care support.
Your belief in me means that you are also supporting many others through my care. I thank you in advance for your interest, time and financial offering.
It is a true honour to do this sacred work.
If you have any further questions, please do feel free to ask and please do share my gofundme page with anyone you feel that would appreciate my initiative & purpose.
With Gratitude,
Jen Maramba
