In Memory of Emily Lang
Donation protected
On August 12th, 2017, Emily Lang, 19, passed away in a tragic accident while backpacking along the Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon. She was with her best friend Emma Place, who also passed away.
Emily was an honors student at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA, where she pursued a BS in Biology with a concentration in Anthropology, planning to enter the Peace Corps before becoming a Physician's Assistant. She worked as a lifeguard both in Bellingham and Portland. Emily was a 2016 graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Portland, OR where she excelled as a varsity athlete in soccer, track, and dragon boats while earning high grades as an honors student and participating in numerous activities to serve her community. Previously, she attended Laurelhurst Elementary.
Family and friends of Emily remember her extraordinary reverence for nature and spirited love for everything related to the outdoors including camping, hiking, running, and kayaking. We remember her bright smile that was often paired with her charming and clever sarcasm. We also remember her deep integrity, sincerity, humility, and empathy that inspired others to search within themselves in an attempt to also exemplify the remarkable goodness that Emily epitomized.
Friends of Emily have started this fund on behalf of the Lang Family, with their permission, in order to lessen the financial strain of funeral expenses during this difficult time.
Any additional funds raised will be donated to Girls on the Run, a nonprofit that inspires health and confidence in young girls through positive mentoring relationships and running. Emily volunteered regularly with this organization in Bellingham.
Much love and gratitude for any good thoughts, prayers, or contributions.
