Our family story through my eyes....
It was a few weeks after my Sweet 16 when my life was turned upside down. My mom went in for routine surgery and the doctor came out with news you never want to hear. “Cancer” was what we all heard. She was diagnosed with a rare form called Leiomyosarcoma. My family, including my mom was scared and devastated, but at the same time we were ready to fight this disease with her. It was 5 years of treatment, happy times and sad times, even a short period of remission. She fought the battle of her life and I don’t think anyone even knew she was sick unless she told them.
It was my junior year of college when her sickness turned for the worst. Seven days before my 21st birthday was the day my mom passed away. It is a day I will never forget. I believe I am the person I am today because of her and I can’t thank her enough for that. She is truly an inspiration to all and has shown me to live my life to the fullest. Live every day in the present.
She wasn’t only mom, but she was my best friend as well. She has become my hero and a woman I will always look up to. Not a day goes by that a memory doesn’t cross my mind or she isn’t brought up in conversation. I don’t know life without her so I continue to include her in mine.
I now currently work for a non for profit organization and since I have started I have had a dream to be able to honor her at the Katz Women’s Hospital part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. I want to recognize her by donating $5,000 to the hospital and being able to have her name displayed on the wall.
Proceedes will directly support The Katz Institute For Women's Health!
Any additional funds after the $5k will benefit the North Shore-LIJ Cancer Institute!
April 14th 2015 will be 6 years since she has passed and that is my goal date! I hope with family, friends and our community we can make this happen! Please spread the word and thank you in advance from the bottom of my heart.
