In Memory of Vicki K. Brown

This GoFundMe has been established in memory of Vicki Brown to support her oldest son, Stephen Brown, who was born with Spina Bifida and has suffered many recent medical complications keeping him bedridden for over 5 years.  Nothing would honor our mother more than for Stephen to be taken care of.

Our family is asking for your support for Stephen’s mobility and medical needs.  Any funds raised will go directly towards two items:

1) Standup Wheelchair – to allow Stephen to be more mobile, independent and functional in the home, and to help him daily relieve pressure in the hopes of preventing future medical issues with pressure sores.

2) Wheelchair Accessible Van – to help transport Stephen to and from doctor appointments.  Stephen’s hip bone had to be removed recently, so transferring from a wheelchair to a car seat has become very challenging for him; and, if not done correctly, causes the surgery wound and pressure sores to open back up, negating the healing that we have all been working so diligently towards.

OUR STORY:
Vicki K. Brown, died on October 26, 2016 as a result of a brain aneurysm and multiple hemorrhagic strokes.  Our mother was Stephen’s primary caretaker.  Stephen was born with Spina Bifida, a birth defect that made Stephen paralyzed from the waist down. Just after the birth of Stephen in 1971, our parents, Steve and Vicki Brown, founded the Spina Bifida Association of Atlanta, which has been instrumental in helping children with Spina Bifida over many years.

Stephen has been confined to his stomach in a hospital bed at our parents’ home for over 5 years while he has been healing from a series of medical issues.

Insurance covers Stephen’s basic medical needs and a simple wheelchair, but it does not cover the additional care that has been needed since mother’s passing.  And, it does not cover anything to help Stephen become more mobile and independent and prevent future medical issues.

With it now just being Stephen and our father at home, anything that can be done to make it easier for them to function daily, get to needed appointments, and continue Stephen’s healing would be an incredible gift and a great way to honor our mother, Vicki Brown.

We are only requesting support for what are the most important needs that will add the most value to Stephen and our father’s lives. We hope you will all agree and know that our beautiful, love-filled, faith-filled, and giving mother couldn’t be more honored and blessed by all of you for supporting Stephen in this way.

With much appreciation and love,
Vicki’s Family
