Inky’s Eye May Fly, But His Spirit Shines Bright

Inky came into my life as a 2-month-old Yorkie puppy in 2020, during the height of the pandemic. From the very beginning, he became my greatest source of comfort and joy, a bright light in uncertain times. With his vivid personality and boundless energy, Inky loves making friends—whether with people or even the biggest of dogs. He has brought so much happiness not just to me but to everyone who meets him.

I named him “豆豆” (Dòu Dòu) in Chinese, which means “bright, clear eyes like beans.” I never imagined that one day his precious eyes would be at risk.

Recently, Inky suffered a traumatic accident, resulting in a severe injury to one of his eyes. After rushing him to the ER, he underwent surgery to reposition his eye, but the prognosis is uncertain. His injured eye has shown no response to light, and there is a high likelihood that he will require another surgery to remove it entirely in the coming weeks.

While this has been incredibly heartbreaking, I’ve decided to embrace a new perspective. If Inky does lose his eye, I want to believe that it hasn’t truly been lost—it’s simply flown away to become a bright star, illuminating the world just as Inky always has. His joy, resilience, and light will continue to shine, reminding us all to find strength in the hardest moments.
