On August 26th, 2019, Vickie, was struck by a motorist in a construction zone while working as a flagger in Ashland, WI. She had four vehicles stopped behind her sign when, unknowingly to her, an SUV, raced around the stopped vehicles when it struck her . Witnesses reported to the family that the vehicle was driving rather fast when it  struck her and that the impact threw her over the top of the vehicle as she came crashing down on the concrete. The vehicle proceeding through the zoned highway construction and the driver was then stopped at the other end of the construction site by the construction crew.

Vickie was brought to Memorial Medical Center in Ashland WI but then immediately transported to Duluth, MN. She was admitted to Neuro Intensive Care unit at St. Mary’s/Essentia Health. Her fiance’ , Joe, left his own construction site in Eau Claire, WI immediately to be by her side in Duluth as has been there since. Vickie suffers from a shattered pelvis, six broken ribs, collapsed lung, and multiple contusions throughout her body. Her surgeons described her shattered pelvis as one of the most extensive in their experience. She has had two significant surgeries to her pelvis so far. Funds are needed to support the couple while she remains in Duluth as both their incomes have come to a halt. Funds will also help with additional costs associated with making their home handicap accessible when that time comes for her to finally return home.
