Injured at Work, Benefits Cut Off –Need Help to Keep My Home
Help Me Keep My Apartment and Car After Work Injury & Job Loss
Hi, my name is Maggie, and I’m reaching out during one of the most difficult times of my life.
I was injured at work and spent five months recovering. I tried to return to work too soon, pushing through the pain because I wanted to keep my job. Unfortunately, I wasn’t physically able to continue, and I lost my job as a result.
While I was receiving worker’s compensation, I was just barely getting by but still doing it. I used up my savings, though. Everything changed after a required Independent Medical Exam (IME). The doctor submitted a report that didn’t reflect my true condition, and without warning, Labor & Industries canceled my benefits.
Now, I have no income and no safety net. I’m low for upcoming rent, my car loan and insurance, and have a shut-off for internet. I’m actively appealing the decision and contacted a worker's compensation lawyer, but that takes time — time I don’t have before rent is due.
I never thought I’d be here asking for help, but here I am. Any support, no matter how small, will go toward keeping a roof over my head, my car (which I need for appointments and future work), and basic utilities.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. If you can help or share this, it means the world to me.
With gratitude,
Maggie
