My name is Lee and I'm from London but staying in Penang, Malaysia, on the 22/09/23 I was hit by an uninsured driver while waiting to pull out of a junction on my motorcycle.
I was wearing a helmet but briefly lost consciousness and was rushed by ambulance to the local government hospital which was thankfully very near by, on arrival at A&E and after x-ray and scans I was informed I had the following injurys: left shoulder (clavicle) fracture, right shoulder Acromion fracture which both require surgery, 2 broken ribs (5+6) on the right side which caused a Pneumothorax which was treated with a chest drain but is still not 100% and lacerations to my left shin, left elbow and right foot. I also developed an infection after discharge on the surgical wounds from the chest tube which were treated with antibiotics and daily dressing at a local clinic.
When first being assessed at the hospital and wanting to go home I was instructed that I could not leave as the Pneumothorax was potentially life threatening and needed to be treated ASAP. I spent the the next 12 days in the hospitals critical care unit where I had a chest drain on both the left and right side and my other injuries were attended to. I was discharged on the 04/10/23 and was informed that as I still had a slight Pneumothorax I would be unable to fly until my lungs have fully recovered. I was also told that the required surgery for my shoulders would take up to 14 months at the government hospital due to waiting times and as I'm a foreigner would actually cost the same as going private.
Unfortunately my health insurance only covered me for a small percentage of the overall cost as it was a traffic accident and the policy would not cover broken bones, the bikes insurance was only 3rd party fire and theft and person who hit me was frustratingly uninsured. I have made a police report to address this issue, however it could take up to 4 years for this to be resolved.
I'm now recovering slowly while seeking treatment for my shoulder fractures and Pneumothorax privately but as I'm self employed and unable to work with my injuries it's becoming expensive and savings are quickly running out.
After consulting with orthopaedic surgeons I was informed that the Pneumothorax would need to be addressed first due to the complications this could cause during surgery and only then can my shoulders be repaired.
The initial cost of the procedures and surgeries will be around RM80,000 - £14,000 in total, so I'm asking for a bit help as iv no idea when I'll be getting anything from the insurance and really can't wait 4 years for the legal side to be settled before further treatment.
Any donations will be very much appreciated and will go a long way in helping with the financial side of my recovery. I thank you all in advance and I'm sorry for having to ask, but I'm a bit stuck at moment due to the circumstances.
