As you all know, I was recently diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer and was told I needed to have my thyroid completely removed due to the tumor being fairly large. It also looks like it has spread to at least one of my lymph nodes (possibly a few more) so that will also have to be removed. I was also told I would need rounds of radioactive iodine after surgery to make sure they kill whatever cancer is left. I have met with a couple surgeons and unfortunately I have had problems with my health insurance when it comes to coverage with certain things. Before I have any procedure done I have to get a CAT Scan done in order to make sure there hasn't been any further spread that will need to be removed during surgery. This is also not covered completely through insurance. With the cancer being in my thyroid, it has affected my voice making it hoarse on and off, especially after any procedure I have done. This is especially unfortunate for me because my voice is literally the only thing I use for work, being a medical interpreter. With this being said, I will more than likely need to take some time off post surgery. I was given a date for surgery for August 19, which was the fastest date they could offer, and I was told the surgery/copay would need to be paid in full by the surgery date, or else it would be canceled or pushed back. I honestly really hate to do this, and I never in a million years thought I would open a gofundme, but needless to say, paying for a surgery out of pocket is never cheap and I was encouraged to give this a shot. I know this has been a tough year for all of us due to the pandemic so any donation at all will be absolutely greatly appreciated. The funds will be used towards surgery and post-op treatment that will not be covered through insurance, as well as medical bills such as imaging (CAT Scan/Ultrasounds). I appreciate every single one of you that has been there for me through this journey. I love you all and we will get through this. ❤

Como ustedes saben, recientemente me diagnosticaron con cáncer de tiroides y me han dicho que me tendrán que hacer cirugía para removerme la tiroides por completo, ya que el tumor está un poco grande. El cáncer también al parecer se ha propagado hacia un ganglio linfático (posiblemente más de uno) que lo más probable también me tendrán que remover. También me han dicho que necesitaré sesiones de yodo radiactivo después de la cirugía para asegurarse que hayan matado todo el cáncer. He visitado a varios cirujanos y desafortunadamente he tenido un poco de problemas con mi seguro medico para que cubran ciertos procedimientos. Antes de que me hagan cualquier cirugía me tendrán que hacer una tomografía axial computarizada, o que acá le llaman "CAT Scan" para poder asegurarse que no haya más cancer alrededor que se tendrá que remover durante la cirugía. Este estudio tampoco lo cubre el seguro médico por completo. Aparte de todo esto, el cáncer estando en mi tiroides ha afectado mi voz, especialmente después de cualquier procedimiento que me han hecho hasta ahora. Esto es muy desafortunado para mi, ya que mi voz es la única herramienta que uso para mi trabajo, siendo intérprete médica. Obviamente esto ha afectado mi capacidad para trabajar y también tendré que tomar tiempo de descanso después de la cirugía. Me han dado fecha para la cirugía para el 19 de Agosto, que fue la fecha más pronta que me pudieron ofrecer. Me han dicho que la cirugía tendrá que ser pagada por completo para ese día o tendrá que ser cancelada o reprogramada para una fecha más tarde. Honestamente no me gusta mucho tener que hacer esto, y nunca pensé que tendría que abrir un Gofundme, pero obviamente esta cirugía es algo que paso muy repentinamente y es algo que esta fuera de nuestro presupuesto, y me animaron a tratar esta opción. Yo sé que ha sido un año muy difícil para todos, especialmente por la pandemia, así que cualquier donación se les agradece de todo corazón. Los fondos serán usados hacia la cirugía y cualquier tratamiento y estudio (CAT Scan/Ultrasonido) que no esté cubierto por mi seguro médico. Aprecio tanto a todos los que me han apoyado durante este tiempo. No ha sido fácil pero yo estoy segura que esta también la venceremos. ❤
