Hello Everyone, My name in Cyndy Meyer, I am a LCSW and practice out of Hilo, Hawaii. I have been fortunate to stay for the last three month in the island of East Africa named Mauritius in the Community of Black River. It all started with my flight back to the States being delayed due to Covid -19 here in the island, and the Local Government shutting down the airport. 90 days later I am still here, and have learned many things about the people here. I am trying to raise funds for the local people so that the may have food,have funds for books, be able to go to School, and build a community center for the unfortunate children of this of this community that do not have the funds or means that do so & do not have a safe place to play or go after school. Due to Covid-19 and this being primarily a tourist based economy, many people are going hungry and are not being able to return to school or work. We will be updating on a weekly basis the progress of the people we are helping and the community. Many countries are not fortunate enough to have the benefits as a Relief Fund or government help. The people here are amazing and caring. Some facts about the community of Black Rive in the Island of Mauritius are 10% of the population are Illiterate, 47% of youths aged 15-19 abandon School due to lack of funds. With your help we want to be able to help the wonderful & caring human beings of Black River, Mauritius.
