INFLUENTIAL - a short film

If you're reading this we probably know each other. But just in case we don't - Hello! I am Melanie Field and I am an actress, singer and writer. I am extremely excited to be producing my first-ever narrative short film, INFLUENTIAL.

I intend to invest $10,000 of my own money to make this happen. But I could really use some additional funds. First and foremost, I would love to be able to pay our crew a FAIR SALARY. In addition, we have some unique LOCATION needs and POST-PRODUCTION costs. Truly any donation amount would go a long way!

THE STORY

Over the last few years, I have developed somewhat of a morbid fascination with influencer culture. After many wine-drunk debates with friends and countless hours of social media consumption (you know, for "research"), INFLUENTIAL was born.

In the story, the façade of an influencer's flawless existence is shattered when she unwittingly encounters one of her followers IRL, revealing the harsh truths behind the curated world of social media and questioning what it really means to have influence. It's funny and dark and messy and complicated and controversial - kinda like social media...

FROM THE DIRECTOR

INFLUENTIAL is a punchy portrait of the world of social media. It is a lighthearted comedy with an edge that explores the blurred lines of reality and examines the human tendency to hold ourselves to unachievable standards through constant comparison.

We will highlight the stark contrast between the polished and high-energy world of social media posts with the "normal" world we see offline.

THE TEAM

We are working hard to put together a group of talented and diverse artists to help make this a reality. It is our goal to assemble an all female-identifying team.

I'm so excited to reunite with Now I Know director, SHIHAN FÉ BLANCA FAHIM who promises to bring her unique vision and POV to the piece. We are lucky to have secured Director of Photography, SEANNIE BRYAN as well as producer/entrepreneur/plus-size fashion hero MARCY GUEVARA-PRETE. This will be my first project co-producing with my long-time collaborator MARISSA LESSMAN and the inaugural production for our new company, Not Your Sister Productions.
