Indoni – in memory of Yanga Jadezweni

A month ago 20-year-old dancer Yanga Jadezweni was performing to a standing ovation at the Seymour Centre, Sydney. This weekend he lay dead on the streets of Khayelitsha, South Africa, brutally murdered. Last week two of his fellow dancers from the Indoni Dance, Arts & Leadership Academy were also attacked – one Sonwabile Mhlonyane has a punctured lung from a stab wound.

The Indoni dance community is devastated by the attacks – a daily reality of living in the townships and doing the commute home from rehearsals and performances. Our priority now is to try and get safe transport for these dedicated performers.
These youngsters deserve more than this random violence.

Yanga’s profile on the Indoni's Facebook page speaks to his dreams: “I love music the most. I am 20-years-old. For my career I want to be a choreographer. I want to bring the challenges I see in our community and show them on stage as dance.”

He may have died tragically, but maybe we can help keep his dream and those of his fellow performers alive?
Please help our drive to raise funds for transport and a secure venue for the Indoni dancers.
Thank you for your support!
