Indonesian earthquake assistance

In just under three weeks, Indonesia has been devastated by a series of lethal earthquakes. The most recent natural disaster, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake, struck the island of Lombok and surrounding regions. Killing more than 100 people, injuring hundreds of others and damaging thousands of homes, the island has been left devastated by it’s effects.

The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics noted more than 120 aftershocks recordings after Sunday evening’s quake, triggering a brief Tsunami warning. Sadly, Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) expects the death toll to rise once the rubble of more than 13,000 houses is cleared away.

Officials have been able to evacuate more than 2,000 people from the three Gili islands off the coast of Lombok but many are still stranded. With limited power and communication to some areas, officials are working hard to help and accommodate everyone affected.
 
With so many people, suburbs and towns affected and with limited resources readily available, The Leisure is raising much-needed funds to aid those in need. All funds raised will be going to Indonesia Aid where the money will be spent on necessary supplies including thermal blankets, bottled water, food, hygiene products, medical supplies and general living equipment.
