I have the opportunity to compete in the Individual World Poetry Slam!! The competition runs at the end of September 2019 in San Diego, California. I'll be Representing Slamalamadingdong as the Grand Slam Champion
I'm raising funds to cover the cost of travel and accommodation.
The reason I started spoken word, to begin with, was in order to express things I struggle to verbalize and to connect with people who have had similar experiences and feelings and let them know they're not alone. Performing at this competition would be the epitome of a dream come true and a chance to be heard on an international platform. It's a testament to the power of art to take us places and connect us globally, while also creating space for people of all backgrounds, to share their truth.
In competing I'll be representing the Melbourne Spoken Word community and putting our scene on the map as active international players!
Arts funding is always a tricky thing to navigate but I believe in the power of the people and the importance of supporting artists you appreciate.
