Vision & Objectives
1- Enable better access to fresh, healthy food for the women, their families, and the community.
2- Improve the communities’ capacities in managing an integrated permaculture system which embraces sustainable and resilient farming practices.

WHO: We are a group of motivated learners. We are passionate to embrace ways to mitigate and adapt to climate change. We are aiming to share this intention with a community in Zarqa, including women and youth, majority of whom are refugees.

WHAT: This initiative stands for environmentalism and sustainability in Zarqa city, following permaculture and indigenous principles; Earth care, people care and fair share. The community hands joined with local experts will work together through a cooperative model approach to spread knowledge in various topics, ranging from compost, hydroponic systems, permaculture design, zero waste lifestyle, etc. We want to prioritize women’s and youth independence while having access to fresh and healthy food during this COVID-19 pandemic and in the years to come. Ultimately, the members of the cooperative will also be able to generate their own sustainable incomes by selling their products, for which there is already a high local demand.

HOW: Your contribution will be used to green and develop an urban garden in Zarqa where women and youth will implement sustainable agriculture. Strategic coaching related to permaculture design, tools and machines, plant beds and nurseries, rainwater harvesting and filtering, shading structures, local seeds and plants, and compost installation are a few examples of our current expenses that we are seeking support for.

This budget is representing the minimal costs we have now. The items you see in green are our priorities for the next 3 months - winter season - for 5,570 Jordanian dinars (CAD$ 8,633).

WHERE: This project is supporting the  Zarqa Life Center  – a well known organization in Zarqa, Jordan, which has welcomed 4,000 women from different nationalities since 2015. The project aims to sustainably reinforce the center’s range of services to create more economic opportunities for women and youth. Innovative activities will be enhanced to spread the benefits of micro-farms and sustainable agriculture practices in urban areas to other vulnerable groups of women and youth.

Furthermore, this project will introduce and reinforce environmentally-conscious and indigenous agricultural practices that are mindful of mitigating climate change and operating in a water-scare context. This permaculture project, led by women and youth, is a powerful way to tackle food insecurity and improve socio-economic conditions for communities in Zarqa.

We are thankful for your support which will enable us to share the appropriate tools with this community. We hope this project will serve as a model that can expand to surrounding communities in Jordan.

من: نحن مجموعة من الباحثين عن المعرفة، الذين لديهم الحماس والشغف لتبني طرق للتخفيف من تغير المناخ والتكيف معه، نحن نهدف لمشاركة هذا الطموح مع مجتمع محلي من مدينة الزرقاء، والذي يضم نساءً وشبابًا أغلبهم من اللاجئين.

ماذا: هذه المبادرة تهدف إلى الوقوف لأجل البيئة والاستدامة في مدينة الزرقاء، مع اتباع مبادئ الزراعة المستدامة: الاهتمام بالأرض والناس والحصول على حصص متكافئة. ستعمل أيادي المجتمع مع الخبراء المحليين معًا من خلال نهج تعاوني، وذلك لنشر الخبرة والمعرفة بالعديد من المواضيع المختلفة، من تحضير السماد العضوي، إلى أنظمة الزراعة المائية، لتصميم الزراعة المستدامة، وصولًا لأسلوب حياة خالي من النفايات وغيرها. نحن نطمح لتسليط الضوء على منح الاستقلالية للنساء والشباب من خلال منحهم الوصول إلى طعام صحي وطازج خلال أزمة كورونا والأعوام القادمة. في النهاية، سوف يتمكن أعضاء التعاونية من إنتاج دخلهم المستدام من خلال بيع منتجاتهم، والتي عليها طلب كبير في السوق المحلي.

كيف: ستُستثمر مساهمتك في تخضير وتطوير حديقة حضرية في الزرقاء، حيث ستقوم النساء والشباب بممارسة العديد من تقنيات الزراعة المستدامة. كما سيُقدم تدريب استراتيجي يتعلق بالتصميم، كما ستستخدم في شراء الأدوات والآلات لحاضنات النباتات والمشاتل، وتقنيات جمع مياه الأمطار وترشيحها، لهياكل التظليل، والبذور والنباتات المحلية، وأدوات تحضير السماد العضوي وغيرها، جميع ما ذكر هو بعض الأمثلة على ما سيستمثر من خلال هذه التبرعات والمساعدات.

هذه الميزانية تعبر عن أقل التكاليف التي لدينا الآن. ولكن يجب علينا أن نستثمر ما مقداره 5,570 دينار أردني (8,633 دولار كندي)، وذلك لتغطية التدريبات في فترة فصل الشتاء (ستكون الثلاث أشهر المقبلة خضراء!).

أين: سيدعم هذا المشروع مركز الحياة  للسيدات - وهي منظمة معروفة في المنطقة استقبلت 4000 امرأة، من مختلف الجنسيات منذ عام 2015 - من أجل تعزيز مجموعة خدمات المركز بشكل مستدام لخلق المزيد من الفرص الاقتصادية الإبداعية للنساء. كما سيتم تبني أنشطة مبتكرة لنشر فوائد المزارع الصغيرة، والزراعة المستدامة في المناطق الحضرية إلى مجموعات آخرى من النساء المهمشات.

بالإضافة إلى ذلك، سيطرح هذا المشروع ويعزز ممارسات الزراعة الأصيلة الواعية بالبيئة، والتي تراعي التخفيف من تغير المناخ، وتعمل في سياق يحافظ على المياه. يعد مشروع الزراعة المستدامة، بقيادة النساء والشباب، وسيلة قوية لمعالجة انعدام الأمن الغذائي، وتحسين الظروف الاجتماعية والاقتصادية للمجتمعات في الزرقاء.

نحن ممتنون لدعمكم الذي سيمكننا من مشاركة الأدوات المناسبة لهذا المجتمع. نأمل أن يكون هذا المشروع بمثابة نموذج يمكن أن ينتشر ويتوسع ليشمل المجتمعات المجاورة في الأردن.
