Hello all!
My name is Indie, I'm a 22 year old Queer, Trans, Person of Color, local artist, and an active community member from Sacramento, CA.
I was originally scheduled to have my top surgery operation in April of this year, of course due to the COVID19 pandemic that was pushed back indefinitely as gender-affirming surgeries were considered elective and not being preformed anywhere in California. Between that and the wildfires that raged on all Summer, I wasn't sure if I was ever going to be able to secure a date for something I'd already been waiting for most of my life, and had been denied to me by my medical insurance many times over. Luckily the tides changed for me and I got a call back from my hospital letting me know that on September 8th, 2020 I would reach a long-awaited milestone that I knew would change my life forever.
At 5:00 AM that morning my lovely partner dropped me off at the surgery facility and later that day I woke up extremely groggy, sore, and already feeling this heavy weight lifted from me. Unwrapping the bandages from my chest everyday, I was able to look into the mirror and see a version of me that seemed so much more brighter and free. Being able to have this surgery done is something that I've looked forward to since I was an adolescent, and now being a few months post-op I can definitely say that I stand taller, breathe deeper, and feel so ready to meet the world as I am.
I had already been saving up for this operation for the last couple of years, but even with working full time and taking as little days off as possible, I couldn't have prepared enough for the $10,538.89 bill that came into my inbox this morning.
This is why I'm asking for your help in supporting me in my gender journey and transition by donating to this gofundme so I can pay this back as soon as possible and not have to worry about medical debt as I continue forward.
