Amma's Ashes - An Indian-American Short Film

Donation protected
“Amma’s Ashes” is a short family comedy with a big heart. It tells the story of three South Asian sisters (and their teenage children), centered around family duty, true love, and discovering who our parents really are, after they have passed.

The film is one of ten selections for the Place Called Sacramento Film Festival (Fall 2022), and features a South Asian cast and a mostly female and/or South Asian crew.

We are starting our fundraising campaign to be able to provide small stipends to our talent and crew, feed them the good food they richly deserve, and pay for incidentals. Please help our team tell a story that is not often heard in American cinema. No donation is too small. We appreciate your support.

Synopsis: As eldest daughter and executor of her mother’s estate, Kaveri has three days to disperse her mother’s ashes in the Sacramento River, but first she must marshal her ragtag family and solve her mother's mystery.

In her way are a blissed-out New Age sister, a gender-nonconforming teen who refuses to wear a sari to the ceremony, and a rebellious, gold-hungry middle sister, who won’t let her drop the detective work till the surprising secret is revealed.
