Why is Ratha Yatra celebrated?

Ratha Yatra is documented in the sacred Vedic texts, the Puranas. The parade, which has been celebrated for thousands of years, is based on the three sibling deities, Jagannath (Krishna), Baladeva and Subhadra. Those who pull Jagannath on his chariot prepare their hearts to invite God and experience God's presence. It is done with great devotion to the accompaniment of chanting and dancing, called kirtan. Join the parade!

Warum wird das Ratha Yatra gefeiert?

Ratha Yatra ist in den heiligen vedischen Texten, den Puranas, dokumentiert. Die Parade, die seit Jahrtausenden gefeiert wird, basiert auf den drei Geschwister-Gottheiten Jagannath (Krishna), Baladeva und Subhadra. Diejenigen, die Jagannath auf seinem Wagen ziehen, bereiten ihre Herzen vor, Gott einzuladen und seine Gegenwart zu erfahren. Last year, we served hundreds of plates with free prasadam! Hundreds of people will sing and dance at the lakeside, pulling the chariot of Jagannath. And the rich, beautiful, ancient culture of India is presented lively and vividly to the city of Zurich. Come over!

Deine grossherzige Spende unterstützt das reichhaltige, kulturelle Programm und das gesegnete Essen (köstliches Prasadam) am 18. Juni 2023 — wie immer kostenlos für alle. Letztes Jahr haben wir Hunderte von Tellern mit kostenlosem Prasadam serviert! Hunderte von Menschen werden am Seeufer singen und tanzen und den Wagen von Jagannath ziehen. Und die reiche, schöne, alte Kultur Indiens wird der Stadt Zürich lebendig und anschaulich präsentiert. Komm vorbei!

Why is it called the Festival of Chariots?

Rath means 'chariot', and the festival is known as the Chariot Festival as it sees the ceremonial procession of three deity figures associated with Krishna (Jagannath, Baladeva, Subhadra). The deities are pulled on chariots by masses of people often along with elephants.

Warum heisst es "Wagenfest"?

Rath bedeutet "Wagen", und das Fest ist als Wagenfest bekannt, da es die feierliche Prozession dreier mit Krishna verbundener Bildgestalten umfasst (Jagannath, Baladeva, Subhadra). Diese werden von Menschenmassen, oft zusammen mit Elefanten, auf Streitwagen gezogen.
