My name is India Rae Cohen. I was born and raised in New York City where I attended Fiorello H. Laguardia High School, a prestigious specialized public school, for visual arts. I am a current Sophomore at Savannah College of Art and Design working towards my BFA in Accessory Design.
Both schools have given me a strong platform within foundation studies and have enabled me to experiment with different mediums and techniques.
I began my major specific classes in Spring 2016. I made my first ever leather goods. Being able to see my designs come to life only reassured me that I am on the right path. In the past few months, I have been introduced to exotic leathers. An array of nature's designs, native to each specie, that make these leathers so unique. I have worked with ostrich legs and rooster feathers (as seen photographed below in the East West Exotics Clutch) and am extremely anxious to broaden my use of materials such as alligator and pythons in the near future.
With more hands on studio classes approaching, I am thinking ahead of what resources I will need and would like to work with in order to achieve my ideal designs. With each piece I make, I hope to build an impressive, creative portfolio. The money raised will go torwards material costs and enable myself to work with more exotic and high quality leathers. The response to my work has thus far been positive and I can not wait to share more of my work with you!
My goal as a designer is to stay true to my aesthetic, create unique pieces and enjoy the work that I do. My long term goal is to create my own brand of handbags and shoes. Once established, I hope to collaborate with other artists and designers in innovative ways.
