India Coronavirus Crisis

Donation protected
Posted 5th April 2020. The campaign ran for 5 months and now helps those still suffering from the lockdown and the virus.

Please help. India is in total lock-down. For the millions on daily wages or without homes this is a crisis. No money, no food, no safety and no ability to self-isolate or social-distance. This is the true front line of the Coronavirus.

Our team  - my family and key staff  - are out every day feeding and helping at risk groups in New Delhi.  Because we own 25 restaurants (all closed), we understand food production and logistics and, critically, have essential worker status and can travel. Many want to help but don't have the systems, skills or just can't get out.

We urgently need funds. We have already raised £115,000 which supports 6,00 families, but we can do much much more and the programme is expanding every day.  As the crisis has developed we are also helping migrants who want to go home by organising bus transport. All permissions from government are in place to make this happen.

Please help! A donation of £20 will support one family for six weeks. £100: five families. £1,000: fifty families. Funds will be withdrawn in the UK from where this campaign is managed and where our business has its HQ. Funds will then be used to pay for essential food, supplies or transport.

100% of funds are spent on food, supplies or transport for those in need. Our process is to identify at-risk groups, assess their situation and then put in place a food and supplies plan for each group. Supplies are procured direct from wholesalers and payment is made upon receipt of an invoice. We keep very detailed records of all transactions and of supplies used and will report this back to donors.

For those that want to go home, we organise buses working hand in hand with state governments. We are the first private enterprise to receive government permission to run transport home. This is no mean feat. £25 pays for one migrant to get home and £600 funds one bus. All buses are safe, modern and air conditioned. The daily temperature in Delhi is now 42c+.

The groups we work with in New Delhi are migrant workers, daily-wagers and refugees. We identify these groups in one of the following ways: tips offs from our social and business networks; requests from local councillors for help; media reports or NGO appeals for help.

For distribution of food and supplies in areas where we need more local knowledge, we work with Umeed - one of India's leading NGOs which has a network of 20,000 volunteers. Projects with Umeed are overseen by our team and we record all details of the families and the help provided. We are currently working with families in more than 25 areas of New Delhi. We also work with Future Hope India who manage a complementary programme in Calcutta.

Our management team (15 people) will manage and fund all related logistics, including distribution, tracking and reporting. To ensure our work is accountable and transparent we record each case on an app developed for this project. I am the Founder and CEO of our business, IMM, which owns the Jamie Oliver and Wendy's restaurant chains in India.

If you are self-isolating or at home please support those who cannot afford this privilege. On behalf of our team and those we help, thank you very much.
