Hi, My name is Laura Davis and I am an independent Australian comedian. I am raising funds to help film my 2022 show If This Is It.
I have spent three years working on this show. It has toured internationally and been nominated for a major award. The show is about climate change, the importance of education and the value of the arts. I wrote it while I was living in the woods after I suddenly found myself homeless in 2020 which wasn't so bad because I love the woods and I like eating beans.
I am 15 years into my career, and this is my 11th show, but I have never had the money or resources to film my work before. I have grown a loyal fanbase through my live work, and I would love to be able to expand that to a wider audience.
I want to celebrate the incredible independent arts scene in Australia outside of the confines of what usually makes it to the major networks and production companies. I love the indie venue I work with in Melbourne and hope to capture the feeling of anarchy and genuine goodwill that lives there.
There are a lot of people who are lending their time and support to getting this idea up off the ground. At the moment it's all running off my small savings budget and a lot of generosity but we now need some more funds to end up with a quality product. I have international representation who can help me get the show out there once it's finished, so I want to make sure it's of a competitive quality.
It's very important to me to be able to pay people fairly for their work. Money from this fundraiser will go towards equipment hire as well as paying the operators and post-production team for their time and labour.
Any additional funds over the original 5k goal will go towards recording my new show, Well Don't Just Stand There Dancing at the end of the season. We have planned to film a single-camera archival video in the last week of the festival, but additional funds will mean we could increase the quality of this recording so it can be released publically.
