Hi! I'm Mir Brustenga, a current student in Emerson's BA in Media Arts Production program. I am writing and directing my short film "The Creature," alongside producers Charles Baldinger and Zack Yen.

Our objective is to start shooting in March 21 and have a final edit by the end of April.

Logline:

Our story follows a young man who sees himself drawn into a chilling and surreal relationship with an enigmatic, otherworldly being: The Creature. This unsettling presence forces him to confront his fears, sanity, and the monstrous truths lurking within himself.

Director’s Statement:

The Creature is a deeply personal exploration of prejudice, perception, and the fear of the unknown. At its core, this story is about how our biases—both conscious and unconscious—shape the way we see others, often blinding us to their true selves. The film follows a friendship built on rejection and fear, a bond strained by the protagonist’s inability to accept their friend for who they truly are.

With The Creature, I want to immerse the audience in this emotional conflict, making them feel the fear of looking at someone they care about yet failing to truly see them. Through the film’s atmosphere, visual storytelling, and performances, my goal is to challenge the audience’s own perceptions—forcing them to confront the ways in which they, too, might be guilty of misjudging those around them.

Budget:

The Creature has an initial goal of $1,000 USD and we are looking for donors to help finance the film. Any help is greatly appreciated! Here is a list of things that will go towards the making of this short film:

40% of this goal will go towards feeding and providing for the cast and crew during production.

30% will go towards equipment needs.

20% will go towards props, costumes, set decoration, and other needs that might arise during production.
