Independence Through Advanced O&M Training
Donation protected
The Orientation and Mobility Advanced Skills Training Program is a five-day program that provides extended lesson opportunities for visually impaired and blind students. The program takes place before the new school year begins in August 2025. The students are divided into five teams (3-4 students per team) and rotate every day to a new skill. Each skill is taught by a small group of O&M instructors. Students learn to take the train to the beach, travel on the bus to Hollywood, hike trails, explore the mall using technology, and develop a shopping list to purchase items and cook a meal.
Visually impaired and blind students want to learn the skills to become independent and productive citizens just like their fellow peers.
As they continue to pursue their goals in higher education, our students learn the skills they need to integrate with their peers and become independent young adults while also having fun learning advanced O&M! Please help support our students with grocery and consumer goods needed to run the camp.
