My name is Alexis, and I’m reaching out for help in achieving something life-changing—gaining the ability to drive! Ever since I was a little girl, I have had very limited/ poor vision, making it impossible for me to obtain a driver’s license. Recently though, through medical and technological advancements, I was able to connect with a specialist who finally has an answer! Bioptic telescopic glasses. Being a mom, and having a demanding job, I’ve had to rely on others to be able to navigate tasks like driving every day. I finally have the opportunity to gain independence, freedom, and the ability to drive safely.
What Are Bioptic Glasses?
Bioptic telescopic glasses are specialized lenses that allow people with low vision to see more clearly at a distance, making it possible for individuals like me to meet the vision requirements for driving. These glasses would enable me to commute to work, run daily errands, and most importantly, experience the independence that so many take for granted.
How You Can Help
Unfortunately, these glasses are expensive, like expensive expensive, and not covered by insurance. Between the cost of the prescription, specialized fitting, training, and DMV requirements, the total comes to $2,000. Your generous donations will go directly toward helping me afford these glasses and complete the necessary training to become a licensed driver.
What This Means for Me
Having the ability to drive will change mine and my daughter’s life in so many ways. It will allow me to travel to and for work related activities, drive my daughter to school or doctor’s appointments, be more self-sufficient, and remove the daily barriers that come with relying on others for transportation.
