Increase arts programs for Seniors!

Over the course of the pandemic, Mandala Arts and its passionate teaching artists have strived to find ways to reach seniors in Chicagoland. Through our Seniors Dance and Movement programs, we have built a virtual classroom that transports seniors to Bollywood of yesteryear, bringing joy and wellness through the form of dance. While seniors were unable to meet in-person, our Dance and Movement videos reached over 20k through Facebook and email.
Mandala Arts will continue virtual arts and wellness programs for seniors in 2022. Beyond Dance and Movement, new programs will include Yoga and Meditation, Music, and performances by Chicago's artists. In addition, Mandala Arts will bring its programs to senior community centers where large South Asian populations reside. Mandala Arts needs your support to fund our programs, artists and the operational costs to make this possible.

About Seniors Arts programs with Mandala Arts:
Mandala Arts began its journey with innovative arts and culture programs for seniors in 2018. Mandala's teaching artist, Ashwaty Chennat, has made a home for the Seniors Dance and Movement class at the Indo-American Center, an integral social service center for the South Asian community residing in West Rogers park on Devon Avenue. In addition to this free program, Mandala Arts has provided performances and workshops featuring South Asian musicians and dancers at the Indo-American Center.
Once Chicago went into lockdown, the programs were halted. Mandala Arts built out a new virtual program to reach the seniors despite distance. In 2021, Mandala Arts began to offer virtual Dance and Movement classes for seniors to reach a wider audience, and built a wonderful classroom community through the efforts of Ashwaty and the energizing Sonia Sethi-Kohli, a dedicated teaching artist.
Programs have returned to in-person, but our team is aware of the challenges that face the senior population during a public health crisis. Mandala wants to increase opportunities for virtual programming to ensure that wellness for seniors can continue uninterrupted.
