Inclusive education - Children with development difficulties

Donation protected
Dear reader,

We're Merle (22) and Timo (26) and for our bachelor thesis occupational therapy at the university of applied sciences Amsterdam we will be going to Kathmandu and Nepalgunj, Nepal. While bringing theory into practice, our project is established to improve the inclusivity of the educational program - with focus on children with disabilities and development difficulties. Our goal is to create a sustainable project that includes children with CP in the curriculum and playful activities around school, as well as the preconditions and accessibility.

Together with SAMA Nepal, a non-government organisation that promotes barrier-free and inclusive education to everyone who is excluded. Their objective is to move from segregation to inclusion by bringing everyone into mainstream education and establish an inclusive model that could be easily replicated through the other districts in Nepal.

The collected money will be used to purchase school supplies and toys, to support learning outcomes. The fund will be mobilized directly at partner schools of SAMA Nepal in various locations of Nepal to support children and use playing material to stimulate their development. The material will be sustainable and durable and selected to fit the needs of the children, focussing on the following domains:
  • Cognitive
  • Motor
  • Language
  • Sensory
  • Socio-emotional

To stay up to date, we created an Instagram page - so that you're able to stay tuned and see what outcomes this project, as well as the purchases. The Instagram-account is named: students_meet_sama_nepal

To us, inclusivity and equity is important and a topic close to our heart. We enjoy working with children, as we gained some experience during our bachelor. The principles of occupational therapy are holistic, and we wanted to do our thesis abroad to understand more from non-western cultures; to broaden our perspectives of the world in order to improve future therapy sessions as an occupational therapist.

Thank you for your time and thanks in advance.
Lots of love,

Merle and Timo
