Inclusion Coffee

We are Inclusion Coffee. We would like to open a coffee shop that hires individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and Down Syndrome. Funds raised will be used to open the first Inclusion Coffee location in the Santa Clarita Valley, CA. In turn, we will work to hire those with intellectual and developmental disabilities from within the community. We want to show that a typically underutilized group of people can be a valuable asset. Our goal is to have our employees poached from us so that we may put even more people into the workforce.

Founders
Michael Hutchinson, founder of Inclusion Coffee House, has a long career as a teacher of special education and working with kids and adults with disabilities. He has a master’s degree as an Education Specialist.  Michael has also been a longtime volunteer and received the Community Quarterback Award in 2018 from the Los Angeles Rams in partner with Honda.  Co-owner Shannon Funk holding two masters in MSIS and an MBA has an intuitive understanding of the business and IT market. As a highly successful businesswoman, investor and mother of an individual with Autism, she brings multiple key capabilities to the Inclusion Coffee team.

Given the recent developments with the Coronavirus pandemic, we now intend to open Fall 2021. While we are opening this establishment regardless of the amount raised on this page because we believe in this cause.  Your support will help to expedite this process and reduce the additional funding that we will need to borrow.

While this is not a new concept, it has been proven on the east coast as a successful business model with several different shops. We have a solid business plan and a dream to enable those with special needs the ability to procure meaningful employment within the community. As parents of a child with Autism, we know what it means to worry about how our child will develop skills and to be able to support themselves to the best of their abilities. We also want to make our contribution to the welfare of the local community by supporting charitable and civic activities.

By contributing to our coffeehouse, you will be bettering the Intellectual and Developmentally Disabled community and the greater good.  We will be creating a Wall of Thanks with names listed. Be one of the amazing people on our wall that helped fulfill our dream of bettering the community.
