On the 3rd of September, Hurricane Dorian (cat 5) made landfall in the Bahamas, devastating everything in its path.
Officials stated that “conditions were much worse than expected”. Maximum sustained winds were recorded at 185 mph (297 kph) with wind gusts of 220 mph (354 kph) being recorded as the hurricane stalled over the Bahamas, leaving at least 44 dead. It is one of the strongest storms to ever make landfall in the Atlantic.
Thankfully all Inchcape Shipping Services employees and their families are safe, though our colleagues in Freeport lost everything.
Efforts now need to be made to help our Freeport colleagues recover as quick as possible.
To help with the relief efforts the Inchcape Miami office and local vendors are working to provide warehouse space for goods to be be stored and shipped to Freeport as needed.
We are also hoping to raise money to support them further. All money raised will be distributed to Inchcape Freeport employees.
Thank you to everyone that have already reached out to help. We look forward to supporting our colleagues in Freeport not just now but in the weeks and months ahead.
