“Inattentional” Web Series Crowdfunding

Donation protected
Inattentional is a dramedy whodunnit TV series created and produced by Boston University students. The first season, which consists of three 15-20 minute episodes, is set to premiere this winter!

The show follows a group of students who are suspected for murder. After somebody hacks the student government president's Instagram account, a student detective interrogates the suspects: an eccentric group of student leaders from a staged diversity photo.

It’s like the drama and twists of Knives Out with the comedic camaraderie of Only Murders in the Building. Inattentional combines mystery and comedy to heighten the true unpredictability that comes with a university setting.

Funding will go towards the production, premiere, and distribution. We appreciate any and all contributions made to our production.

Crew Testimonials

Maggie Borgen - Showrunner/Executive Producer and Director (Episode 1)

I am so excited to be working with an amazing creative team to bring “Inattentional” to life! “Inattentional” aims to use the whodunnit genre to explore ideas surrounding diversity, internal biases, and stereotypes. With an ensemble cast of eight characters, we are creating a web series infused with humor that we hope will resonate with a Gen Z audience and spark dialogue.

A key part of the web series is the idea of Inattentional blindness. The inattentional blindness phenomenon suggests that “unless we pay close attention, we can miss even the most conspicuous events” (APA). Inattentional blindness explains that, when we are solely focused on looking at one thing, we can fail to miss unexpected things that come directly into our sight of vision (APA).

What if we thought about inattentional blindness in terms of interactions with people? We let our biases cloud our judgments of others around us, focusing on what we want to see or have been told to see versus what is reality.

Through supporting the GoFundMe, you are helping us bring this web series to life and to submit it to festivals when it is completed at the end of the fall semester. Thank you for your interest in the project; I cannot wait for you to see it!

Lydia Evans - Producer (Episode 1)

I’m excited to work on Inattentional because it so perfectly grasps how it feels to be a person of color at a predominantly white institution. Not to mention, it’s the mystery of the century. I’m thrilled to see this production come together!

Alex Shores - Producer (Episode 2)

I am very excited to work on Inattentional, because after reading just the Pilot episode, I know Maggie has an amazing story to share with the world. Getting to be a part of that is an honor, and I have never produced a web series episode before, but I am ready to learn and apply what I already know! We have a wonderful team too, and I can’t wait to work with everyone!

Brady Willis - Producer (Episode 3)

I am so excited to work on Inattentional as a producer! This project is so supportive of forwarding progressive ideas and providing opportunities to young filmmakers, which is incredibly important to me. Working with this team has been so fulfilling and fun, and I cannot wait to dive right into this process.

Melanie Menkiti - Head Editor

Hi I’m Melanie and I’m gonna be editing the upcoming whodunnit series! I can’t wait to work on another short series, having worked on another one this past semester with some of the same crew. I’m also really excited to work in the mystery genre — while I love it, I haven’t gotten a chance to really dive into it, so I’m super excited for that opportunity!

Bella Bremer - Associate Producer and Director (Episode 3)

I’m excited to work on this project because it is something new in the space of student series in an unconventional blend of genres while grounding itself on relevant conversations happening on different campuses today.

Sara LaFever - Head Production Designer

I’m so excited to work with this amazing and talented group of people to tell this story. It’s my first time being head production designer, and I’ve already had so much fun bringing this world and the characters to life.

Amanda Hess - Director of Photography (Episode 1)

This will be my first time working as a Director of Photography/ Assistant Director, and I’m excited for the opportunity to take on these new positions. It’s been great working with everyone. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all comes together on set.

Joy Gu - Director (Episode 2)

I'm super excited to work on this show because I've always loved a good mystery story. I've also never directed a mystery before, and I'm incredibly excited to have a chance to help create the kind of story I love.
