My In(Art)iculate Truth

A soulful mid-life reflection, My In(Art)iculate Truth is my journey to wholeness and self-acceptance in a world that wasn't built for me. Through original songs, vignettes and dance, I will share the moments that shaped my life. A queer girl who loves Jesus, I have  spent a lifetime at the crossroads of contradictions. Born in East Texas and raised in the Christian Evangelical faith, I was a gender nonconforming child who from early on rejected all things proper and pink.

My In(Art)iculate Truth is an affirming story of devotion, belief and redemption. Amazing adventures fueled by divine interventions and supernatural mania are juxtaposed with darker incidents including a two-decade long battle with anxiety and clinical depression. Through my roller coaster life's journey I manage to lose my religion without losing my mind – or my love of Jesus. From my blue ribbon days on the Texas Junior Livestock circuit to receiving an award from the President of the United States, my passion for community, leadership and social justice launched a career in national service and education.

A talented amateur performer, I have spent the last year developing the show. At 42 I believe "it's never too late when life is long." Like a Buddhist monk who creates and then quickly destroys a sand mandala, I will perform the show just once.
