Hi, my name is Haylee Griggs. I am setting this fundraiser up on behalf of my mother Dana Bailey. My sisters, brother, and I want to thank you for your time to read our Mom's story and see just how much of a fighter she is.
On February 15th my mom drove herself from Texas to Northwest Arkansas for my little brother to take her to the emergency room after she couldn't get any help from Texoma Medical Center in Denison. At the ER she was given the diagnosis of that nasty little "C" word of Cancer. Orginally, they thought lung cancer due to pneumonia and fluids in her lungs. They also found lesions on her bones. We were told that it looked like it had metastasized to her bones. 5 days later on February 20th, she ended up back at the ER, this time at North Ark in Harrison, from hurting her arm and shoulder while lowering herself into the tub. She was in extreme pain. The Dr. at the ER in Harrison gave her stronger antibiotics for the pneumonia and told her that her arm was not broken and that she had cancer and needed to follow-up with an oncologist. She saw an oncologist on Friday February 24th and at that time was told that there was a possibility it was not cancer and that he thought it might just be scar tissue, but it would be 3 weeks before a biopsy. The oncologist told us that it pretty much wasn't cancer. On February 28th, Mom was taken back to the ER this time at CoxHealth in Branson. They admitted her into the hospital and administered a blood transfusion due to low blood platelets and had said that she has gone into renal failure. They did an upper GI scope to check for internal bleeding and a blockage. Thankfully the scope came back clean. On March 1st, they had to do another blood transfusion due to her count still being so low. CoxHealth found the break in her arm that NorthArk missed. Her right arm is broken in 3 places. The places where they found the break in her arm was covered in lesions. They made the decision to transfer her to CoxSouth in Springfield, MO. Once she arrived in Springfield, the Dr's came in and exlained that they were no longer looking at lung cancer, but that they thought she had multiple myeloma which is a rare type of bone cancer that attacks the plasma and platelettes. On March 2nd, the kidney doctor determined that her kidneys were functioning at 8% and that she would need to start dialysis. He said that although they think its multiple myeloma it's not 100% until they confirm with a bone biopsy. At around 11:00 AM on March 2nd, they took her back to perform a bone marrow biopsy. They were not able to extract any bone marrow and had to chip a piece of her bone to biopsy. She was in severe pain. On March 3rd, she had her first dialysis session. They also placed another port in her neck for chemo. Our mom is a fighter. She has been in good spirits through this whole process. She is taking it all with faith and grace. She knows that God has got her. This process is starting to put a financial burden on her and my little brother. My brother goes to work and then leaves there to drive an hour and half to be with my mom. My sisters and I are doing our best to help where we can, but we are all three in a different state than they are. I am currently sitting by my mom's side while she is undergoing her 2nd dialysis treatment. She has cracked jokes all morning including acting like her bed was a train ride telling everyone on the way down to dialysis to make sure to keep their hands and feet inside the ride at all times. She is stronger than she knows. I ask for your help to take some of the financial burden off of her while she fights the BIGGEST FIGHT for her life!! Thank you and GOD BLESS!
