In the Eyes of Maria Lydia Sanchez

“The eye through which I see God is the same eye through which God sees me; my eye and God's eye are one eye, one seeing, one knowing, one love.”  ~ Meister Eckhart ~

Hello friends and family of Maria Lydia Sanchez,

By any chance, do you remember the 1992 film Wayne’s World?

Well, I do! Particularly, the scene where Wayne does this playful one eye open... one eye closed thing while repeatedly saying "Camera 1....Camera 2....Camera 1".   Oh how I miss those unforgettable Mike Myers movies. I always thought he was so bizarrely creative with this unique style of communicating something meaningful under the curtain of humor.

Here is a Link to the "Camera 1, Camera 2" clip as a gif:

This "Camera 1, Camera 2" scene has relevance to this GoFundMe page dedicated to a person who consistently shines light on those of us who know her. Ms. Lily is never too far to give a warm love bug kind of hug when you need one. Ms. Lily is just a phone call and/or text away for anyone who needs a bit of cheering up. And Ms. Lily is never shy to share a laugh with. If you know her, you know how much she loves to laugh but more so loves making us laugh. We all have heard the saying, "laughter is the best medicine"!!

So if you don't mind, will you help participate in this next part?
No one will ever know whether you actually did or not...only you will know! lol

Okay, so let's start with...

Part I

First, close your right eye and keep your left eye open.
Then switch to closing your left eye and open your right eye.
You can do it faster and reenact Wayne's "Camera One...Camera Two" scene.

Nice!! Sure feels quite different! So out of the norm!

Okay, so let's keep it going onto...

Part II

Next, keep one eye shut whichever eye you want.
And then read the following passage with your other eye.
(You can cover the closed eye with your hand if it feels easier to read that way)
You will have reached the end of the passage when you come across the words:
"Open up your heart and let the sunshine in!"
Then open or uncover your closed eye and return to reading as you normally do.

I'll explain the point of this afterward... in case you haven't figured it out yet lol
If you decide not to give it a try .... well... no one will ever know!!

Ready...Set ....Go! Cover one eye while reading the following passage:

Lily has two favorite colors - Blue and Maroon.

Lily has two cats - baby boy Maxie and Whiskey the talkative tabby.

Lily has two eyes ....not one more, not one less... just TWO...like me and you!

Lily has fought for many years in the never ending, daily Blood Sugar Battle of Fort Diabetes Type II.

Lily's beautiful hazel eyes began to develop symptoms of blurred vision with tiny floaters swimming in her view over a year ago.

Lily's condition soon reached such loss in her vision that it was no longer safe to drive her beloved maroon truck.

Lily has now been diagnosed with having Diabetic Retinopathy. More than 2 in 5 Americans with diabetes have some stage of it.

Lily's eyes are at different stage levels of severity. The left has around 5% visibility. The right about 55% visibility.

Lily has undergone a treatment of injections to both eyes every month for the past 11 months with hopes of stopping any further damage.

Lily's condition has actually reacted positively to each of these monthly injection treatments.

Lily's right eye is gradually increasing area of visibility.

Lily's left eye is ready for the next step. Surgery

Lily is blessed with an amazing surgical doctor whom also administers her monthly injection treatments with extreme care. There is no doubt Dr. George will apply the same careful consideration in the surgery room as he has consistently done for Lily in each of these past 11 months. Truly a blessing compared to the first eye doctor Lily had.

Lily's determination and dedication to following the process and pushing all fear aside is how she keeps the fight moving forward.

Lily never gives up on her faith. She says that's where she finds strength. Even when finances are not enough to cover the copay. Even when she has physical pain. And even when the world shows no sign of relief... It's in Lily's loving heart that will always guides her to take on the battles so many of us would rather not fight in.

Now let's "Open up your heart and let the sunshine in" for our Lily! Aka Chezy! Mrs. Maria Lydia Sanchez!

If you read the above passage with one eye covered...I thank you for doing so.

We often take for granted the many things we've become accustomed to living with. "You never know what you have until it's gone" is sooooooo true!! Right!!

We also don't always take the time to understand what it's like to be in someone else's shoes. No matter one's level of education, one's level of wealth, or one's level of health....we all are just human beings with faults and dreams no better and no worse than the other.

If you read the passage without covering one eye...it's never too late to go back and read it again! lol Double the work! Probably should have just gone along with it!

And for those who were able to taste what Lily's current situation may feel like by covering one eye for a brief moment .... I hope the experience gives you a deeper connection and deeper understanding to the struggle Lily's medical condition has on life.

Thank you all for taking the time to participate in reading this GoFundMe page dedicated to and for what is "in the eyes of Maria Lydia Sanchez"!!

Lily is scheduled to have what is called a Vitrectomy Surgery to her left eye the morning of October 28, 2020

I will try my best to provide updates on her recovery within this forum.

The surgery should last no longer than three hours from check in to check out. Lily is expected to be in recovery for at least two weeks from home. Her first week of recovery requires keeping her head in a downward position for 40 minutes of every hour during first week. Mr. Sanchez will be taking time off from work to be at home with her. Family members will be near to help run their errands, grocery shop, and take food at any time.

To learn more about what entails a Vitrectomy Surgery below is a link to the National Eye Institute website. It's filled with a vast amount of information but broken down in a simple format. I found the site to be easy to use when researching this medical area of information that I have no background knowledge in. If you know anyone fighting their fight with the Blood Sugar Battle of Fort Diabetes, I highly recommend sharing this resourceful link with them.

It's important to note that: Less than two years ago, Lily noticed her first signs of symptoms that rapidly progressed into worse. Because within less then a year later....she has to face the possibility of losing all vision in her left eye. We pray surgery will succeed and loss of vision will fall into regression.

High cost copays might suck at the moment but find some how to maintain a healthy condition for the eyes because going blind will cost even higher in life than the copay. One of many lessons we have learned.

Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez want to send a BIG THANK YOU for contributing a donation to help cover the cost of copays and recovery needs for Lily.

May good health envelop you, Lily, spurring a quick recovery.

We all send get well wishes and pray that you and Dr. George will have a successful surgery October 28, 2020.

WE LOVE YOU!!
