In the Eye of the Storm

Donation protected
Update: Thank you so much for the donations to date. We’ve raised the original requested amount from $5,000 to $10,000 for phase 2 of the journey which includes surgeries #3 & #4. Shana had surgery #3 on Tuesday, October 1st and will be having Surgery #4 on Thursday, October 10th. A week before surgery, Shana lost her job AND totaled her car all within 24hrs of each other. She has held strong during this seemingly never ending storm but the challenges keep coming. The original funds raised covered her medical deductible, bills and rent while she was out recovering from surgeries #1 & #2. There is an immediate need to cover rent and bills during October and November while she heals and looks for a job. We are so thankful to all who have given and pray daily for God to bless you many times over. God has been endlessly faithful with provision down to the dollar and we trust as He is rewriting Shana’s life, phase two will be no different. Thank you for your continued support! May God Bless you all. ——————————————————————— On Sunday March 10th, I had a car full of excited family as we ventured off headed to the Exchange Church to meet up with my foster sister and dear friend Shana. Many of you know our story that we lived together when we were children for a time because Shana was in foster care with her brother awaiting a forever home.  We were so sad as adults when she moved to Florida and our families look forward to our annual visit to spend some very precious time together. That Sunday in March we laughed, we played, we worshipped, we visited, we hunted sea shells! It was the perfect Sunday Funday! A few days later, Shana found out she had breast cancer and was facing a double mastectomy very soon.

Shana was just beginning her new life in Florida with her kids. She was learning how to be independent and how to get through each month financially and emotionally when this occurred.  Shana takes everything to prayer. Anyone who knows her knows this is true. She doesn’t act impulsively on the big things. Each day we have prayed for next steps. Each day we have listened for the answer. One thing Shana has been clear about is not wanting to ASK for help. It has taken much encouragement to be able to have her share her needs.  She gives and is the first to ask what she can do to help on any given day. This role reversal is hard. Life has these moments where pride has no place and this is one of them.  I asked her to identify her needs right now. Her only pressing issue is the finances to sustain the household while she goes through this surgery and recovery.  There are copayments with each visit and medication. There are the home bills that need to be paid. There is a need to know that there will be a reserve that her bills can be paid out of until she can return to work.

In talking and praying, we both came to the number of $5,000 to sustain through this and so that is what I am humbly asking for to help my sister in this time of healing and transition.  This surgery will likely be happening within the month which doesn’t leave a lot of time to get things in order. Right now we are praying daily in gratitude for the love, support and prayers that have been given to date. We are constantly assessing what is needed and will be updating caring bridges as other things come up. We are taking each day one at a time.  Let us now help Shana to be able to take this concern off her plate so she can focus fully on her recovery. Thank you to all of you who have been there supporting Shana. Words can not express how deeply appreciative we are to you.   Every night I lay down and thank the Lord for each one of you supporting my dear friend as she walks through this storm.  I thank you all for your prayers and anything you are able to give.

I will be coming down to Florida to be with Shana for her surgery and initial time at home.  I will need to come back to VT when Shana begins getting on her feet however we know the needs will continue. Please contact me through this site if you are interested in providing assistance in the future post surgery for things that will be needed like meals, companionship, child transport/care, transport to appointments or church, a trip to the grocery store.  I will take over posting for a bit post surgery to keep everyone updated on her condition and if she is up for visitors.

Please pray for provision for Shana as she walks through this storm. We thank you for your continued support, love, prayers and gifts. You are all treasured and your kindness is so appreciated.
