Greetings, Derek here, that person you see fronting Jan Doyle Band and runs Night Shift Goth events. For example. It's my 50th Birthday this year AND it's 10 years since I started putting on events as Night Shift which I also started in Doncaster so I decided I wanted to make a signifcant event here. Having been driven mad by the way in which Trans people had been demonised in recent times it felt entirely appropriate to try and raise funds to fight against that whilst at the same time having a damn good time.

The way there has been such a trans panic so to speak almost akin to the Satanic Panic of the 80s and 90s.. .the very idea that somehow there's some secret cabal of abusers of women and children 'masquerading' as a different gender is so absolutely ludicrious. To demonise people who just feel they are in the wrong body with things like Starmer 'welcoming' supreme court decisions on the matter (that were informed by the bigoted Cass report) is against ACTUAL reasoned science. There isn't really a binary biological sex so to be that restrictive on gender defies all logic. I hate this so much I just felt I need to do something.

So anyway that's the kind of mission statement but let's talk logistics a bit more... This will take place at the Unitarian Church on Hall Gate here which is basically just a bit more of the High Street so it's very central. There's 6 performances each day but each day culminates in my Jan Doyle Band... well it IS kind of my birthday party..

On Saturday we'll have Doncaster's Passion Play, Scarlet Early from London. Dierotica from Manchester, Sister Chain and Brother John from Sheffield and Byronic Sex and Exile from Leeds. On sunday we've got Doncaster's Jackhno, Tommy Biscuits (Lawrence of The Papashangos doing a solo performance mix of origins and unusal covers), Doncaster's John Merric's Remains, Manchester's Cadence Noir and Syd.31.

It's a cost of around £600-800 to make happen. After that cost has been covered all donations go to mermaids and up to that point 50% goes to mermaids no matter what.
