In Support of the Bigcas Family
I've set up this page for my colleagues Hannibal and Virginia Bigcas, who are caretaking employees of one of the highrise communities I manage. Unfortunately, they and their family suffered a severe family loss this past weekend. Tragedy struck their middle son, Ravin, a school teacher, who was shot multiple times by thieves who wanted his motorcycle. Unfortunately, while rushing to the hospital, he didn't make it and passed away Sunday night (October 11th, 2020).
Hannibal, Virginia and their youngest son urgently need to travel home to the Philippines to attend to their son's affairs, grieve and seek justice. I gather that, in the best of times, travel to areas outside of Manila is arduous and time-consuming; however, due to the COVID19 pandemic, challenges have increased exponentially. Flights between Vancouver and Manila are minimal. Additionally, the Philippines is currently in lock-down, and travel is incredibly restricted both when entering from abroad and travetravellingin the country. Hannibal and Virginia will be required to quarantine both in Manila when they arrive and then again when they travel south to their son's home. All adding costs to an unplanned and unexpected family crisis.

Hannibal and Virginia, being caretaking staff while paid a living wage, are not getting rich doing what they do to keep the highrise community in order. I've set up this gofundme page to facilitate lending them a helping hand in their particular time of need. I'm not sure how soon it will be before returning to Canada, but like all of us, the expenses continue, and it's unlikely a government program exists that contemplates their need. To add to the current tragedy, less than a year ago, they lost many of their possessions in an apartment fire and were in the process of rebuilding their life.
