Hi, my name is Mason Brasher! I am fundraising for my fiance, Sydney Sowder. Sydney was diagnosed with High-Risk B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia CNS-3 on July 15th, 2022 at the age of 22. Sydney is being treated at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, due to her type of cancer. Traditional chemotherapy treatment has proven well for Sydney, thus far. She is nearly halfway through treatment, with 1 year 2 months(scheduled) left.
Sydney obtained her cosmetology license in 2022 and was working to open a salon here in the heart of Bedford, Indiana. She has been unable to work since being diagnosed. She suffers from a common side effect of chemotherapy called neuropathy. Neuropathy has caused Sydney to lose the feeling in her hands, fingers, and feet. She is concerned that she will never be able to be a stylist again. It would be a giant help to our family if we could supplement her income until we discover a new passion for Sydney that does not require detailed precision of her hands. The doctors have faith that the nerves that are currently being destroyed will grow back around the damaged nerves.
Sydney is a big-time adventurer, which goes together well with her fiance (ME!). We have always wanted nothing more than to travel to the continental US in a van or camper. Believe it or not, we were going to sell our home to support the dream. This is no longer a viable option for us, as we need a solid foundation in the instance that this cancer returns after treatment. Due to her age and the percentage of cancer within her bone marrow at initial admission, there is a 50% chance that this cancer will return.
Many times we ask why things of this nature happen to children/people who do not deserve it. I believe that this is only a question that God himself can answer. I do know, however, that Sydney has been handling her diagnosis with grace. We will forever be a positive force within this community of struggling people. Thank you all to the moon and back again.
