Help Support Gerard And His Battle With Cancer
Donation protected
As some of you may not know, our oldest brother Gerard was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in November 2018. Lymphoma is a complicated cancer that begins in infection-fighting cells of the immune system. Gerard had found swollen lymph nodes on the side of his neck that were fast growing. Eventually, these lymph nodes started to spread throughout his body. For those of you fortunate enough to know him, have experienced his character, selflessness, and kindness firsthand. His tenacious work ethic is constant, working over 60 hours a week without ever complaining. Even in the midst of an exhausting battle with cancer, he refuses to stop working. His generosity and compassion is unconditional. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it, without hesitation. Setting the example of a true Costigan, he is unbelievably strong and determined despite any trials and tribulations. His priority of always putting his family and friends first has never wavered.
During Gerard’s two-year treatment, he has spent countless hours and days travelling to Princess Margaret Hospital for doctor’s appointments, radiation treatment, chemotherapy, and underwent a twenty-one day stem cell transplant. The various treatments hoped to beat the cancer, unfortunately that was not the case. Recently, Gerard found more swollen lymph nodes and returned to the doctor for further testing. The tests discovered the cancer has now spread to his stomach. As a result, he is hoping to start a new experimental treatment that comes with the estimated cost of $8,000. Throughout his two years of treatment and approximately 160 doctor visits, Gerard barely took any time away from work. He would undergo chemotherapy and go back to working. Unfortunately, it is becoming more difficult for him to work given the effects of the cancer. He has told his family that the pain in his stomach is excruciating, leaving him feeling very weak and having difficulty eating. Gerard is a proud individual and has never asked for help. However, as his family, we have decided we need to do this for him. The road ahead is long, but we want him to know we love and support him. To ensure he deeply feels the same amount of love and support he has always shown us. We want this page to be as discreet as possible and surprise him as a family. The money will be used towards the treatment and any other expenses needed. We want Gerard to focus and put his energy into getting well and not worry about any financial burdens. Anything you could give, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
