In support of Kayelyn Trapp's Accident Recovery

On May 13th we got the call every parent dreads. Our daughter Kayelyn Trapp was involved in a terrible high-speed car accident where the other driver T-bone her on her side of the car where she sustained most of the impact. Kayelyn does not remember much of anything that night. However, she does remember the impact and fire fighters having to use the jaws of life to cut off the roof of the car to get her out of the car. The pain she went through was excruciating. She was rushed to the nearest hospital in serious condition. Because her car was hit with such great force it caused her many serious injuries. Kayelyn arrived at the ER with a clasped lung, broken back, neck, ribs, pelvis and covered in bruises. The force of the air bag caused burns to her face and right wrist. She went into surgery where they screwed 4 screws into her broken pelvis to keep it in place. They also put in a rod in her spine to hold T3- T6 together and fused her neck vertebrates back together. About 2 weeks later we also found out she was suffering from a fractured shoulder. Her boyfriend Dane was in the passenger seat and her sweet dog Bentley was in the back seat and ejected from the car. Luckily, Bentley did not have any serious injuries just some bad bruising and cuts on the side of his body. Dane thankfully had minor injuries with some bad bruises covering most his legs and a hurt ankle and hurt shoulder.
Currently, it is not clear when she’ll be able to return to work. She is not able to walk until her pelvis heals so she has to rely on a wheelchair and her back isn’t expected to be healed for at least 3 months so she is very limited with her arm movements as well. Her back is the biggest problem right now because of the intense pain. This is going to be a very very long recovery with a lot of physical therapy and occupational therapy. She has very little strength in her arms and legs because of the pain she’s dealing with and the restrictions she on.
Kayelyn is in needs of immediate financial help because of this unforeseen accident. We don’t want Kayelyn to be burdened with the stress of these very expensive medical bills after everything she’s been through She had just started a new job 6 weeks before this happened and had only accrued a few days of PTO but thankfully she had health insurance. She is not getting paid for this time off, so her needs are great. Kayelyn needs financial help paying for doctor co-pays, physical therapy, and occupational therapy, 2 surgeon bills, almost 3 weeks in the hospital (with 2 days in ICU) so you know that is going to be a super high bill. Her immediate needs are help paying for prescriptions, doctor co-pays, food, rent, phone bill, and the vet bill and dog food. We understand that everybody may not be in the position to help but even sharing this message will help more than you know!
I cannot tell you how difficult it has been to see our baby in so much pain and being told by multiple doctors and nurses that she is so lucky to be alive. Her car is absolutely unrecognizable! It is fortunate that because of Covid19 I have been working remotely so I am able to still work and be with her every day to care for her.
Kayelyn is a strong, positive outgoing woman who always finds a way to make you smile. She always has such great energy and lights up a room when she walks in. She has a way of working her way into everyone’s heart. She is a terrific Aunt who loves her niece and nephew so much and misses them with all her heart.
