In support of Douglas Torres - Car accident

I hope this story touches your heart

On the 7th of May of this year (2020), in northern Brazil, my dear friend Douglas was tired after a long day at work and all he wanted was to go home to be with his family. He was driving, when suddenly he lost control of the vehicle. The car was totaled, and one of his legs got stuck in the car hardware and he almost lost his life in the accident.
He was rushed by the firefighters to the hospital, and when he got there he had to undergo surgery and unfortunately ended up losing part of his right leg. He had to stay in the hospital for more than three weeks, and he only survived with the help of friends and people who sympathized with his story and made blood donations, as it took many transfusions to keep him alive.
 

Douglas's wife, Carla, has been on his bed side during all of these weeks. During this time she had many sleepless nights, and an extreme concern about how to conduct things going forward. Douglas was self-employed and also the main provider for his family.
Although Douglas is already at home, the bills keep coming, and he also needs a nurse to help him with his bandages, as they must be done professionally, if something is done incorrectly the stitches can get infected and aggravate the situation even more.


Douglas will also need an orthopedic prosthesis, so that way little by little his life may return to normal and he can also go back to work, because as I said earlier, he is self-employed and needs his job. He works in gardening, and although it is a tiring and exhaustive work, it is also his passion and his source of income for him and his family, wife and their three children.



I've known Douglas and his family for almost 20 years. They are fantastic people who always reached out to help everyone who needed it. Today he is the one who needs our help. Espero que essa história toque seu coração


No dia 07 de Maio, no norte Brasil, meu querido amigo Douglas estava  cansado depois de um longo dia de trabalho e tudo o que ele queria era voltar pra casa e ficar ao lado da sua família. Estava dirigindo, quando bruscamente perdeu o controle do veículo e capotou por várias vezes, uma de suas pernas ficou presa nas ferragens e por pouco ele não perdeu a própria vida no acidente.

Foi levado às pressas pelos bombeiros para o hospital, e chegando lá precisou passar por cirurgias e infelizmente acabou perdendo parte da sua perna direita. Precisou ficar mais de três semanas internado, e só sobreviveu com a ajuda de amigos e pessoas que se solidarizaram e fizeram doações de sangue, pois foi preciso muitas transfusões para mantê-lo vivo.

Carla, a esposa de Douglas esteve ao lado dele todas essas semanas. Durante esse tempo teve muitas noites mal dormidas, uma extrema preocupação de como conduzir as coisas daqui pra frente. Douglas era autônomo e também o principal provedor da sua família.

Embora Douglas já esteja em casa, as contas não param de chegar, e ele também necessita de uma enfermeira para fazer os curativos, pois eles devem ser feitos com muito cuidado, caso algo seja feito incorretamente os pontos podem infeccionar e agravar a situação.

O Douglas precisará também de uma prótese ortopédica, para que aos poucos a vida dele volte ao normal e também para que ele volte a trabalhar, como eu disse anteriormente, ele é autônomo e trabalha com jardinagem, e embora seja um trabalho cansativo, é também sua paixão e também a sua fonte de renda para ele e sua família, esposa e os seus três filhos.

Conheço o Douglas e sua família há quase 20 anos. São pessoas fantásticas que sempre estenderam a mão para ajudar a todos que precisavam. Hoje é ele quem precisa da nossa ajuda. Por favor considerem doar para essa causa, o mundo precisa de mais pessoas como esse homem que tem garra e coragem. Ajude o Douglas e sua família nesse momento de dificuldade.
