Hi my name is Dana, the bonus mother to the wonderful and beautiful Annette Boissoneau. To start off I have to thank everyone for taking the time to read and share this GoFundMe campaign.
Back in April 2024 our family was brutally caught off guard when Annette attended the hospital over, extreme prolonged back pain. After some basic tests and scans the doctor dropped a bomb.. Stage 3 colon cancer was the furthest thing we could have imagined. Shock and disbelief is not even close to describe how hard this information hit... Up until this point Annette seemed to be in general good health and high spirits her whole life.
At the tender age of 35 and as a mother and protector of 3 young children fear set in quickly, there was only one option... Fight...
Following diagnosis, she had surgery to remove a tumor from her colon and lymph nodes, then the chemo began.. After 6 months of grueling chemo treatments, Annette was blessed with a clear state of remission. The cancer was gone.. Time to ring the bell!! With such a scare so suddenly Annette couldn't be happier to be back at home with her children and loved ones.
Consistent 3 month visits full of scans and bloodwork with the oncology doctor to ensure the fight was won, followed.
Sadly only 6 months after ringing that bell, another shock to the system came.. After only one round of check ups the second one was the news that crushed her all over again.. The cancer was back and this time stronger then ever...
Stage 4 colon cancer, that had evolved and spread. This time it was wrapped around her aorta and threatening her life in a desperate manner. Sault Area Hospital was taken back and uncertain that they were able to do much of anything to help her here locally. Annette was referred to a specialized team of doctors in Toronto..
The waiting was the hardest part....
In efforts to curb the evolution of this spread and danger zone status, chemo treatments and radiation took place immediately. Chemo proved to create more of an issue, as she was too sick to handle it. The doctors came to find that the cancer was eating away at her aorta and a massive leak ensued. Treatment had to stop. She was surprisingly discharged from the hospital on the grounds that, two doctors had two opinions and without the ability to do treatments. her stay at SAH was pointless, and she would be "better off" at home waiting for the Toronto team to follow up. Thankfully that call came almost immediately and on February 13th 2026 Annette was flown out to Toronto General Hospital, where she was met with the surgical team and plan of attack was set in place. The decision to perform the Whipple surgery was the only option this team had and the 8 hour long procedure took place.. Success! Annette came out of surgery with the knowledge that then plan worked and they had successfully done the unthinkable. As this type of surgery is extremely complicated, there were several moments that tested the doctors , who fundamentally had her life in their hands.
Only 4 days post surgery, new pains surfaced on the opposite side of her body, confusing Annette and creating new concerns for the doctors. A CT scan found an major infection caused from a leak in the bile duct. Emergency surgery was executed, thus leaving Annette in a serious life threatening state. Annette was placed on life supporting measures due to the inability to close up the surgical point of entry. They needed to keep her sedated and open in order to extract the infection in a safe way that would not result in yet another surgery emergency. After 5 days in sedation Annette was taken off life support and a system of drainage was place in the abdomen to continue caring for the infection...
Currently today, Annette is still in Toronto General Hospital with her partner Jayme, and daughter Kaylynn by her side. This has truly tested the whole family, who have come together to help in any way possible.. With Bonus Grandma taking care of Jayda & Jayden here at home in the Sault, they remain scared but forcibly staying as positive as they can with their mother and father so far from them and home.
This last 5 weeks has been beyond difficult to manage emotionally and fearlessly. Jayme has been doing his very best to keep hope alive and hold Annette and his children together, and all at an extremely heavy cost. Not only in his heart as he watches the love of his life fight for her life, but financially, while supporting the stay in Toronto and his children at home.
We all know that the world fully stops when this kind of trauma hits, but we also know the world keeps spinning by demand, and so does the responsibility of a man to care for his family. After depleting most of his personal savings ($23,000.00,) its time to reach out and ask for the help that is so difficult to seek.
Please remember that not only a financial donation helps, so does spreading the word, sharing the campaign and keeping Annette in your daily prayers, and for this, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Yours Truly
Annette, Jayme, Dana, Jayda, Kaylynn, Jayden and family
