In Support of the Migrants' Caravans
Don protégé
This is a community fundraiser to bring donations and support to asylum-seeking migrants in the caravan heading north to the U.S. from Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico, escaping extreme poverty and violence in their home countries and seeking refugee status in the United States of America.
Some heavily-armed U.S. Americans may gather at the border to stop the asylum-seekers, but others among us living in the U.S. are traveling to Mexico to support their journey towards relative safety here.
I have traveled to Mexico City and the north-western regions from November 18th-24th, in order to reach and help support the migrants' caravans, and I plan a second shorter trip in late January.
About me:
I earned a PhD in Geography this past August at UC Berkeley researching the politics of migration between Pakistan/Afghanistan and Europe. In that context, I have also gained ten months of experience bringing support to refugee camps and border crossing areas in the countrysides of South-Eastern Europe (Greece and the Balkans).
I grew up in Italy/Central Europe and moved to San Francisco 10 years ago, where I am now finishing my teaching credential in Social Science and work as an educator for special education students at Creative Arts.
Update, Friday November 30.
I have gotten safely back from Mexico to San Francisco almost a week ago. Thanks to the messages of solidarity by Californian children I have brought over from SF and the donations I have received from the US and many parts of Europe and elsewhere, we have collectively managed to financially support 15 particularly vulnerable refugees(*) from Central America and to show very real solidarity to hundreds more.
I went a few hundreds of dollars over budget, and therefore I will continue to accept donations until January. If able to, in terms of finances and energies, I plan to go back to follow up with the 15 people I managed to help the most(*), that I am still keeping in touch with and that I hope to support in their asylum claims in the United States.

Thank you in advance for any support!
