In sickness and in health, until death do us part!

For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.

These are the vows my beloved husband and I took 12 years ago, but never in my wildest dreams would I ever have imagined that they would be tested.

Mathews Brooks is a handyman’s handy man; he does construction, painting, flooring, appliance instillation, everything! He loves working with his hands, and when he’s not doing jobs around the house, he’s helping friends and neighbors. Professionally, Mathews has been a professional boxer, chauffeur, truck driver and heavy cable installer. His whole life, he has been active, up and moving.

April 7 2019, a day that I will never forget.  What we thought was a simple groin injury from a misstep while cutting a friends lawn. Mathews was diagnosed with Sepsis. He was in full blown kidney failure, Rhabdomyosis (musclebreakdown), acid ketoacidosis and severe Staph infection.  He was immediately placed in ICU for 2 weeks and lost 50lbs. Mathews was also placed on dialysis because of the damage to his kidneys . There was no clear indication if my beloved husband would survive.

The doctors were not very hopeful of Mathews survival and if he did survive at what capacity.   The biggest mystery is where did this infection that caused this sepsis come from? As it was likely the cause of the domino effect of everything else that was happening to his body. After a week in the ICU the likely culprits were identified, it was the pins in his hip that had been there for more than 30 years. During the misstep from cutting the grass it was discovered the pins had shifted and are now piercing Mathews in the hip joint (the doctors compared it to someone being shot in the leg with a nail gun and the nail being embedded).  There was nothing they could do about the pain in his hip because of all of the other issues.

Thanks be to God, Mathews took a turn for the better on the Saturday before Easter, all of his readings where indicating that something positive was happening, his levels were returning to normal, he was taken off of dialysis on Memorial day. He spent a total of 4 weeks in the hospital and another month in a rehab hospital and was discharged home on May 31st.

On Friday, June 7th Mathews  was readmitted to the hospital with fluid on his hip and in excruciating pain. We are waiting on results as the infection may have returned.

My husband and I need your help!
Needless to say the hospital bills are astronomical and the medical bills continue to mount.  I have recently changed jobs; my new insurance did not take effect until 2 months after Mathews injury. Mathews will have hip surgery on June 17th to put in an antibiotic hip spacer. He will have a total hip replacement in late August early September.  We need to raise $15,000.00 to cover the deductibles and other medical needs, such as medical transportation and provider care.

We are very thankful and grateful that God chose to spare Mathews’ life and that your contribution will help restore him back to good health. No donation is too small as we just want to get his surgeries and rehabilitation completed so that we can get back to some type of normalcy. Mathews and I humbly thank for your support.

For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part. I’m with my husband for the long haul, we just need a little help right now to make it over the financial hump.
