“Melissa McCarthy Missed the Mark”
Recently actress Melissa McCarthy launched a campaign called 20 days of kindness, in which she teamed up with HBOmax to donate $20,000 to 20 different charities. You’ll see the irony of the name “20 Days of Kindness” soon. One of these charities was Exodus Cry, which is committed to abolishing sex trafficking and breaking the cycle of commercial sexual exploitation.
Sounds like a pretty great charity to give to right? Well according to Melissa McCarthy, not anymore. Melissa and HBOmax have since withdrawn their donation to Exodus Cry related to past comments made by CEO, Benjamin Nolot, concerning abortion.
Though Exodus Cry is solely focused on the abolition of sex trafficking throughout the world, and the liberation of women and children, and as an organization has made no official remarks concerning any other subject matter, abortion or otherwise, they’re apparently undeserving of donations. The $20,000, and potentially much more from other donors, would have been solely used for the mission of abolishing human trafficking, and liberating women and children. Nothing else. It seems that organizations that do great work against injustices will be CALLED OUT, SHUNNED, and CANCELLED for individuals within the organization holding differing opinions, despite their causes having nothing to do with those opinions. The irony of the name "20 Days of Kindness" is that these actions were not very kind to Exodus Cry, or the women and children directly affected by their organization.
In light of these recent events - our aim is to raise that $20,000 BACK for Exodus Cry - and MORE! Please DONATE, and more than anything - PLEASE SHARE THIS STORY. Thank you in advance for giving to Exodus Cry, and helping abolish sex slavery!
