We are excited to share that we will continue our group show In Praise of Magic after the initial pop-up exhibition at Local Project Art Space in Long Island City, Queens, August 7 to 21, 2021. We need your help to cover the costs of the space and pay for the behind-the-scenes work needed for the next stage of the exhibition.
Total we want to raise is $1,200
$500: Gallery rental
$400: Documentation for video and photography
$300: Administrative costs, including meal stipends for gallery sitters
Who will benefit?
By supporting this exhibition, you will help give visibility to underrepresented artists, bringing artists from different parts of the Americas in dialogue and fostering a cross-cultural exchange and a panorama of current concerns. The public in general also benefits, as the show proposes a reflection on intersecting global crises, with the pandemic, ecological and political crises, and the rise of extreme nationalism worldwide.
About the show:
The exhibition In Praise of Magic presents the work of eight Latin American artists scattered across the Americas: Monica Loss (Brazil/USA), Vanessa Feitag (Brazil/Mexico), María de los Vientos (Colombia/Brazil), Jimena Schlaepfer (Mexico), Julie Brasil (Brazil/Guatemala), Eneida Sanches (Brazil) María Yolanda Liebana (United States), and Sandra Lapage (Brazil). The exhibition consists of photography, freestanding sculpture, hanging sculpture, wall sculpture, woven paper, and video projection.
These bodies of work present art process as shamanic practice and trance as a source of knowledge, considering diversified epistemologies and ancestralities without falling into superstition, and resisting dogmas that seem to take humanity to a disillusioned path.

Local Project is an artist-run non-profit organization committed to building an educational forum for emerging artists of exceptional vision, and creating synergy between the exhibition of their work and the public. We believe diversity is essential to growth. -A donor will receive a private panel discussion with the artists in the exhibition. A time will be scheduled and will be held on Zoom.
