Hello!
We are Greg Drapkin and Joey Tabasco, two up-and-coming arts managers from the Philadelphia region. As a culmination of the undergraduate work we’ve completed in Drexel University’s Entertainment and Arts Management program, we’ve chosen to focus our Senior Project on producing In Pieces: A New Musical by Joey Contreras, which will be presented in early November of this year.
We are choosing to pursue an extremely ambitious project, requiring one of the most expensive Senior Project budgets in our university’s history. However, we are confident in our fundraising efforts. Already, two generous funding sources have set us on our way by awarding our project almost double their average grant award sizes.
Although we are only producing on a collegiate level, our show will adapt to today’s rightfully ever-changing, inclusive world of theatre-making. There is no requirement for non-union productions (shows not run with Actor’s Equity Association contracts) to pay their performers. Nevertheless, we aim to compensate our entire cast, band, and crew to the best of our abilities. The funds gathered from this platform will also be used to pay our Production Team, consisting of a Director, Assistant Director, Music Director, Stage Managers, Lighting, Scenic, and Sound Designers, a Master Carpenter, Electrician, Technician, and an Event Supervisor.
As two members of this arts community, we value and appreciate your commitment to arts and education. We strongly believe in this work, and we do not take this experience lightly. We hope this story can inspire and resonate with audiences as society works to exit one of the most challenging global setbacks we have ever experienced. Thank you for being so helpful in bringing this piece to life.
Show Synopsis: In Pieces: A New Musical threads the music and pop catalog of songwriter Joey Contreras into a theatrical setting. With a fair share of sensitive emotions and anthemic pops, In Pieces reflects on the romantic journeys of eight individuals as they share, ponder, and look back on the chosen paths and partners along the way. Set in New York City, there’s the scary excitement of being vulnerable and saying yes to whatever adventure is ahead. The magical first kiss. An unlikely friendship. Well-kept secrets. The monotony. The rebound. An awakened reunion on the 1 train. And the honest conversations about deserving more. All these pieces of a life that at times connect and disconnect, but once at a distance, come together to create a universal remembrance of what it’s like to be young and learning in love.
