Help David Study at ICP

My name is Davit. I live in Yerevan, Armenia. Becoming a documentary photographer was my lifelong dream. Today, I am thrilled to announce that I am awarded a full-year scholarship at the School of International Center of Photography in New York City – one of the world’s best schools of documentary photography and visual culture.

I am grateful for this generous award ICP has found me worthy of. However, my scholarship does not cover some of my living expenses. I am asking for your help to realize this life-changing opportunity because it will allow me to grow as a documentary photographer and storyteller.

This is how it started

At a documentary workshop in 2013, I was introduced to the world of social documentary photography. I remember staring in amazement at Eric Grigorian's World Press winner iconic photo of a boy mourning at the tomb of his father who had died in an earthquake in Iran. That feeling made me recognize, that I wanted to become a documentary photographer.

The following months, in an effort to find my voice in photography, I examined hundreds of publications at the Mirzoyan Photobook Library in search of guidance. I wanted to study what made an image great. I was inspired by James Nachtwey, Roger Ballen, and my mentor Karen Mirzoyan.

Currently, I am documenting the visually impaired in Armenia, a larger body of work that I started five years ago. Please take a moment to check it out .

Your Support is Important

Living abroad and studying at ICP will provide me the tools to authentic documentation. It will allow me to tell the stories of vulnerable populations and impact social change through photography. 

I understand the importance of my education in telling stories as authentically as I can. Creating this GoFundMe will help me achieve that. Thus, I am reaching out to you for financial assistance.

My tuition is completely covered by the school. My family and friends were able to lend a helping hand by raising money in Armenia. However, I still need to raise an additional $5,000 to cover all my living expenses during my stay in New York.
