A Momentary Boost
A financial horror has hit Eliot and me and we are currently living off of his Social Security disability.
I have run out of my savings and have used up two credit cards but they each had a low limit. I have been unable to pay my insurance premium and now have none. My seizure medications now cost $850/month so I am quickly getting off of those.
There is a slew of things going on, can't pay the mortgage, many bills, car breaking down,
and such. I can do the work on the car myself but I need the parts... erg.
On June 19th, Eliot had a colectomy + proctectomy with ileostomy and he has been in and out of the hospital since with a nasty infection that is resistant to antibiotics.
I am Eliot's unpaid employee because he is 'special needs'. The funds he receives allows him to go out into the world 5 days a week for 5 hours a day. The group goes bowling, they volunteer at an organic farm, go to hipster coffee shops, learn how to spend money, learn to watch out for cars crossing the streets and have a lot of fun together. It is his community of friends.
When he is done with the day, I need to be home to watch over him. If he has a seizure while I am away at work and he hurts himself, I am charged with neglect and he will be removed from his home. He cannot call 911. If a fire breaks out or anything, it is a problem. I have never taken respite hours from his funding because he has a great life. What adult guy wants to hang with mom all day, every day?
If his funding goes to me, around $13,500/year, Eliot’s quality of life will significantly change. His friends will miss him. His care providers will miss him. The people at the local businesses will miss him. The ladies at the Senior Center will miss dancing with him on Friday evenings.
This IS the Butterfly Effect and we need help...
