Hello, my name is Violet Hudson and I am here to raise funds on behalf of my step mother Kayla Godden, my father Christopher Hudson, and their precious angel baby, Zeke Christopher Hudson.

Zeke was born on 21 October 2024 with a rare and devastating condition known as Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (RCDH). This cruel condition forms in the womb, when the diaphragm - the muscle that should separate the chest from the stomach - doesn’t develop properly. For Zeke, it meant he was born without a diaphragm, and all of his organs were forced into his tiny chest before he even took his first breath.

Because RCDH is significantly more dangerous than the left-sided form (LCDH), the survival rate is tragically low, being only around 10%, compared to much higher chances in LCDH cases. For Zeke, the impact was devastating. His lungs could not grow to their full capacity. His heart was pushed into his right shoulder. He faced life-threatening organ compression from the moment he was born.

From the moment he was born, Zeke’s little body was fighting a battle that most would never survive. His lungs had no room to grow, leaving him unable to breathe on his own. His heart was crushed and pushed into his right shoulder. His chest, which should have held space for his lungs and heart to thrive, was instead filled with his stomach, liver, and intestines.

The days that followed were nothing short of devastating. In his first week of life, he endured three massive surgeries. He was kept alive on a cardiopulmonary bypass machine, and later on an ECMO machine, because his heart and lungs couldn’t cope alone. Every surgery carried terrifying risks, and each time the machines had to be swapped over, the possibility of brain damage hung in the air. Surgeons stitched together a diaphragm with man-made muscle in hopes of giving him a chance at life, and his parents held on through every single heartbreaking moment.

But despite his strength, the love surrounding him, and every medical effort possible, Zeke’s condition was simply too severe. After nine days of unimaginable pain and hope, his family had to let him go.

Zeke was a fraternal twin to his youngest brother, Zayne (10 months), and a beloved little brother to Bonnie (6), Holden (3), myself (18), and Floyd (21).

Kayla now faces the overwhelming emotional weight of losing her son while caring for her five children and managing household expenses in today’s difficult economy. She is not someone who would ever ask for help, which makes this step even harder for her to accept. But she deserves the chance to give Zeke the beautiful farewell he deserves.

Any support you can give, whether through donations or simply sharing this page, is deeply appreciated. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us honour Zeke’s short but powerful life.
